چکیده
BACKGROUND The uncontrolled discharge of untreated ballast water, which is essential for a ship's optimal operation, one the major causes sea environmental pollution by shipping. Among disinfection methods available water treatment, ozonation commonly used method, but its performance limited rapid ozone auto-decomposition rate. Nanobubbles (NBs) technology has attracted much scientific interest as it characterized long residence time in aqueous phase and high surface area; therefore, nanobubbles (OzNBs) are expected to enhance capacity residual activity. present study was designed provide further insight into inactivation heterotrophic bacteria saline examine use OzNBs water. RESULTS survival rate Escherichia coli (E. coli), indicator microorganism, along with consumption at different salinities (1.5, 4, 8 15 PSU) bacterial concentrations (107, 106, 105 CFU mL−1) without supplementation were investigated. results indicated statistical difference concentration total oxidants (TRO) presence salinity level 1.5 PSU 4 only lowest content. At low concentration, TRO 6-fold higher OzNBs. CONCLUSION strong impact on ozone. When increased, reacts more rapidly bromide chloride ions. exhibited greater © 2023 Authors. Ozone treatment of ballast water on the oil tanker S/T Tonsina: chemistry, biology and toxicity
Worldwide transfer and introduction of non-indigenous species in ballast water causes significant environmental and economic impact. One way to address this problem is to remove or inactivate organisms that are found in ballast water. In this study, 3 experiments were conducted in Puget Sound, Washington, USA, using a prototype ozone treatment system installed on a commercial oil tanker, the S/...

ABSTRACT Background: Invasion by different kinds of ballast water microorganisms is one of the most important marine environment problems around the world therefore preventing the invasion of these unwanted and harmful stowaways is one of the main strategies of responsible agencies. Some of these methods such as ocean excha...
متن کاملCrumb rubber filtration: a potential technology for ballast water treatment.
The removal of turbidity, particles, phytoplankton and zooplankton in water by crumb rubber filtration was investigated. A substantial reduction was achieved. Of the three variables, filter depth, media size and filtration rate, media size had the most significant influence. Smaller media size favored higher removal efficiency of all targeted matter. There was no apparent relationship between r...
متن کاملOnshore ballast water treatment: a viable option for major ports.
Ballast water treatment consists of the elimination of exotic species. Currently, the development of alternative methods for this process is directed toward treatment onboard ships. However, we present onshore treatment as a viable alternative for ballast water treatment. We investigated onshore treatment in two iron ore ports with movement capacities of 25 and 90 million tons annually (Mta) th...
متن کاملEnhanced performance of crumb rubber filtration for ballast water treatment.
Waste-tire-derived crumb rubber was utilized as filter media to develop an efficient filter for ballast water treatment. In this study, the effects of coagulation, pressure filtration and dual-media (gravity) filtration on the performance of the crumb rubber filtration were investigated. The removal efficiencies of turbidity, phytoplankton and zooplankton, and head loss development were monitor...
